Bilitz & Huenink – Athletes of the Month – MAY

At the end of each month, the head varsity coaches of teams that are competing will nominate an athlete from their respective sport to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC).  At the next monthly meeting, the SAAC representatives will vote for one male and one female athlete of the month.  The athlete of the month will be an individual who had great performances and/or success in their respective sport for that month.

The month of May – 

        

Cora Bilitz – SR – Softball

Senior Cora Bilitz finished up her softball career with a stellar season.  The month of May finally brought some dry weather where Bilitz got 42 at bats, 14 hits, 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 15 run batted and 15 runs scored.  Bilitz had a batting average of .333 with an astounding .462 on base percentage with a .548 slugging percentage.  At the mound, he went 4-1 with a recorded 26 strikeouts.

Lewis Huenink, SO – Track & Field

Sophomore Lewis Huenink had a spectacular month of May to cap off the outdoor season. At the beginning of May at the GMC relays, he was a member of both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays that took first place.  At the TE invite, he took first in the 100m dash and second in both the 200m dash and as a member of the 4×200 relay.  Next at the Hale Invite, Huenink and his team mates took first again in the 4×200 and third in the long jump at 21-07, the best jump of the season.  At the conference meet, Huenink took third in both the 100m and 200m, 7th in the LJ and the relay team in the 4×200 took first place.  Next up at regionals, Huenink took another first place finish in the 200m and the 4×100 relay team took first also breaking the school record in 42.47.  The last meet in May was the sectionals where Huenink and the relay teams in the 4×100 and 4×200 took first place, he took first again in the 200m breaking the school record in 21.97.  The 4×200 relay also broke the school in 1:28.50.
