Multiple Teams · New Coaching Hires to join TE Athletics

Wauwatosa East athletics has hired several new coaches to join different sport programs.

Girls Golf – Coach John Ravenola has stepped down from the girls program.  His successor is no stranger to the program, Steve Gastrau is now the girls varsity head coach.  Gastrau most recently had his daughter, Katie, in the girls program and had two sons go through the boys program.  Longtime Wauwatosa residents, Gastrau has many connections in the golfing community in the greater Milwaukee area.  He currently owns Gastrau Golf Range, located in Franklin, where he has taught individual and group lessons.  Gastrau has been involved in several youth sports as a coach in the Tosa area.

Baseball – Coach Reggie Tate is the new JV Head Baseball Coach.  Tate is no stranger to the program, as he has been an assistant with the freshman team the past two years. As Tate is familiar with the baseball program he’ll continue to bring a great knowledge and experience of baseball to the program.  He also serves as a member of the football staff during the fall season.

Boys Tennis – Jim Slonac is another coach that is familiar with the athletic programs at Tosa East.  Slonac is a member of the girls tennis staff in the fall and now joins the JV boys program as the head coach this spring.  He brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the program.  Slonac has worked in the summer at camps and leagues in the area, training several athletes to develop their skills and is well respected in the tennis community.

Track & Field – Both the boys and girls track and field programs had an overhaul to the organizational structure of the coaching staff.  The result is some shared positions and one new position to provide more coaching to the specific events.

First we have UW-Madison alum Jackie Pasholk joining the throws staff. Pasholk was an outstanding athlete at Arrowhead HS and continued on to great success at UW-Madison. She will use her expertise and talents to work in developing the throws athletes on both the girls and boys side.

Next we have Curtis Beals joining the staff as the high jumps coach (Boys and Girls) and assistant boys sprint coach (Boys). He was an outstanding high school state athlete in Illinois and competed in both football and track and field at college (Lakeland University).  Beals will bring a great connection already established with several athletes and looks to improve the jumps program. Beals is a current member of the football staff.

There are two new distance coaches that are joining the track and field programs.  Erin Cutsforth (Portage HS and UWM Cross Country/Track) will be joining to coach the girls long distance athletes and Joe Kerhin (Sussex-Hamilton HS) will be on the boys side. Both are currently assistants with the girls and boys cross country teams respectively and will continue to work with several of those athletes during the track season.

Taylor Lindl (Wauwatosa East HS-2009) is joining the staff as an assistant hurdle coach and assistant girls sprint coach.  Coach Lindl is the current school record holder in the 300m Hurdles and works in the Academic Resource Center at East.

We also have Kristin Kendall joining as the new boys and girls pole vault coach.  Kendall joins Tosa East with great coaching experiences, as she’s previously been at Waukesha South and Brookfield East.  She was a pole vaulter in high school at Oak Creek.  Kendall will bring experience, passion and excitement to the position.

Girls Soccer – Lastly, we have Maggy Waech coming on staff as the new JV girls head coach.  Waech is another local athlete, she played at West Bend West and Cardinal Stritch before a second ACL tear ended her playing career.  She has good coaching experience at club, high school and college level.  Currently, she is a graduate assistant at Wisconsin Lutheran College for the women’s soccer program.  Waech will bring great insight, experience and enthusiasm to the program.
