On Thursday, Feb. 6, Wauwatosa East athletics and physical education department hosted the National Girls and Women in Sport Day event, sponsored by the Women in Sport Foundation. This year’s event marked the 34th year of celebrating females in athletics and activities. It is an opportunity to educate and showcase the experience of being healthy, fit and active females and how that assists them in life. The Tosa East event had keynote speaker Bobbi Kelsey, current MPS commissioner, and former Division I college basketball coach, WNBA assistant coach and Big Ten broadcaster. The girls then were split into four groups and heard from different female guest speakers on topics of nutrition/peak performance, fitness/personal training, healthy mind/healthy body and sports medicine. When the groups rotated to the next discussion, the girls participated in a little ‘exercise’ to demonstrate their activity level.
