ATHLETES OF THE MONTH – Phillips & Wellenstein
At the end of each month, the head varsity coaches of teams that are competing will nominate an athlete from their respective sport to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC). At the next monthly meeting, the SAAC representatives will vote for one male and one female athlete of the month. The athlete of the month will be an individual who had great performances and/or success in their respective sport for that month.
Nadia Phillips – Cross Country
In the month of October, Nadia became the sophomore record holder for the 5000m with a time of 19:46.6. She earned a place on the Greater Metro Conference Second Team by finishing 13th at the conference meet. Also in the month, she also qualified for the sectional meet with a 5th place finish in the sub-sectional. At the sectional meet she placed 20th, which she ran under 20 minutes for the second time that week.
Arthur Wellensetin – Cross Country
For Arther, the month of October was strong from the beginning to the end. On Oct. 3 at the Tosa East Invite, he took second place in a time of 17:09. Next up was the GMC conference meet where he finished 4th in 16:24. He then had two races in the same week, the sub-sectional which he ran in 16:04 and earned him 3rd place. The time of 16:04 placed him 11th overall in Tosa East All-Time list. At sectionals later that week, he took 5th place in 16:22, which qualified him to race at the WIAA State Meet a week later. At the state meet, he ran in 16:27, which earned him 20th overall for Division I runners.
