Red Raiders News · STATE CHAMPIONS – Boys Basketball

The Wauwatosa East boys basketball team captured the WIAA Division 1 State Title on Saturday night at the Menomonie Nation Arena.  In the most unique way the WIAA has held a state tournament, they won two games in the same day.  The team defeated River Falls in a close afternoon semi-final game, 56-48.  They rested then for about 4 hours before heading back to the arena to face #1 seeded Kimberly for the state championship.  After trailing at halftime by one point, 26-27, the team came out strong in the second half going on a 27-3 run to clinch the state championship defeating Kimberly 62-44. This is Wauwatosa East’s third boys basketball state championship, they won one when the school was the only school in the city as Wauwatosa High School.

Wisports.net named Brian Parzych and Jay Hinson, Jr. to the All-Tournament Team.  Honorable Mention are Leon Bond, Marcus Mbow and Alex Singleton.  Parzych was also named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
