The Girls Track and Field team did quite well last night, finishing 2nd as a team in the first meet of the year.
A couple school records were even broken! Sophomore Jetta Mays blasted out of the blocks for a school record in the 55m dash. Mays ran the race in 7.30 seconds, which was good enough by .02 seconds for the record, previously held by Roxie Hentz, ’87.
Senior Amaya Ibanez-Baldor started out strong as well. Breaking her own record in the pole vault, Amaya jumped to 10 feet even, just missing her attempts at 10-4!
The Raider team has over 70 girls out this season. The most they’ve ever had! With more and more talent coming out and more depth to fill events, the Raider ladies look to do some damage this season in the conference and the state.
“We have some great young talent that came out this season, whether freshman or first time upper-classmen who will really help us!” Coach Losinski explained. “And with our retuners like Seniors Addison Devine, Amaya Ibanez-Baldor, Kennedy Carthen, Raven Moore, Elsa Klein, Eden Gissibl, Payton Fitzgerald, Abby Wood, Juniors Mara Zydek, Chandler Yow, Melis Kaplan, Benica Grose, and Sophomores Maia Mays, Jetta Mays will help solidify points in the varsity meets.”
The Raider ladies are off to a great start!
