The Red Raiders won their first match in the WIAA State Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Whitman Field in convincing fashion, ousting Waterford 5 – 1. East scored first in the 25th minute on a goal from junior Natalie Land on an assist from fellow junior Amma Tuffnell. Waterford would counter with a goal of their own in the 35th minute tying the score at 1 – 1. The Raiders would seize momentum just before the half when junior Katie Swenson scored an unassisted goal off a corner kick serve that bounced in the box and somehow found the side netting.
In the second half, Tosa East would bully the Wolverines around for most of the half. Sophomore Makenna Wells tallied two goals in the period with assists coming from Land and sophomore Liv White. Freshman Anya Ranft also converted a beautiful volley for a goal off yet another assist from Land. The Raiders now will seek revenge against number 1 ranked Whitefish Bay in the Regional Final on Saturday afternoon at Whitefish Bay at 1 PM. The Raiders will be seeking their third consecutive Regional title.
